Good news! An artist has generously offered to donate a beautiful piece of MJ art for us to auction off for our chosen charity.

There is a wonderful story behind this artist and MJ.

I first came to know about the artist, Nason Ponniah, in 2009. Shortly after Michael’s death, there was an article in the newspaper. Someone (Nason) had made a beautiful portrait of Michael and wanted to send it to Michael’s children. But he didn’t know their address, and appealed to anyone who knew it to please email it to him.

This was the piece of art that he made:

Whats special is that he had made this portrait with only pins! (You can see more of his work at: Nickel Plated Pin Art.)

So I emailed him the childrens address. I also suggested that he personalise the portrait with “To Prince, Paris and Blanket” since there was room at the top, which he did. He said thanks, and then that was it.

A few days later, another article appeared in the newspaper. A manager at DHL (a courier company) had also read the article and offered to courier the piece to the children for free! (Clearly an MJ fan.) :)

This beautiful piece of art now belongs to Prince, Paris and Blanket.

I never forgot Nason because this was the most unique and beautiful piece of MJ art that I have ever seen. Many times I wished I could have that picture on my wall!

Then when this charity project started, I contacted Nason to see if on the off chance he would make another piece like this for us to auction off, since he had donated several pieces to charity before. He said that he already had a few pieces of MJ art ready and I was welcome to have any or all of them:

I asked him for an estimate of how much they are worth. He said he had once donated four pieces of his pin art of the same size to a church to be auctioned off for charity.

The Last Supper above was one of the four pieces that were auctioned off at the church. Each of them fetched the equivalent of what would be US$20,000+ in the US. Yikes!!!

I asked if he had anything smaller, or if he could make us something smaller, like a greeting card-sized piece. He said that there is a limit to how small it can be because even though the canvas size can be smaller, the pins remain the same and there are only so many pins you can fit into a square inch. He said he could probably make something of an A4 (letter) size, and that’s what he’s working on right now.

We plan to hold an online auction in the second or third week of August. We will post details here when the artwork is ready. In the meantime, start saving up your money! All proceeds go to the chosen charity.
